SPECIAL LOCATION THIS MONTH!!!

Our normal meeting room at the Asheville Convention and Visitor’s Bureau is booked, so we will meet at the University of North Carolina Asheville, Rhoades-Robinson Hall, room 125.

November 13th, 2-4pm.

Click here for directions and maps.

You are free to park anywhere on campus – parking is free on campus Sundays.

This month’s board meeting will be held immediately preceding our regular meeting, same location, starting at 12:30PM.  All members are welcome and encouraged to join us for the board meetings as well.

This month our very own Mark Burchette will be giving us a presentation on techniques for mounting orchids. Most orchids grow “mounted” on trees and rocks so this is a very natural, and often very attractive, way to grow your orchids! This is definitely one not to be missed.

Last month we hosted the AOS Carolina’s Judging Center for a supplemental judging session. As has become the standard our little society continues to show why we are one of the best in the country! We scored 10 AOS awards during the event as follows:

  • June Wilbanks scored her first ever AOS award
  • Mike Mims received 7 AOS awards for his outstanding specialty Phalaenopsis!
  • Graham Ramsey Received 1 AOS award!
  • Steve Arthur, an AOS Judge received 1 AOS award.

To put this in perspective, the AOS just held their Annual Fall Meeting in California, a National event, and there were only 7 AOS awards given at that event!

This month is also our annual business meeting and elections. We will review the budget and vote on a proposed budget for 2017.

The Board Election committee has proposed the following slate of officers for the 2017-2019 Board:
President: Mike Mims
Vice President: Bob Hydzik
Secretary: Cristie Suprina
Treasurer: Axel Graumann
Board members: Graham Ramsey, Paul Johnson, Bill Fore.

Be sure to bring all your bloomers to share at the show and tell table…and remember…every plant you bring for show and tell scores you a free raffle ticket! (Same goes for any food you bring to share as well)

Also, if anyone is interested in hosting the annual holiday social in December please let a board member know. It would be held on the second Sunday of December, just like our regular meeting!
