On August 13th, a team of American Orchid Society judges from the Carolina Judging Center will be our guests for an afternoon of orchid fun. If you have never experienced an AOS judging event, you definitely don’t want to miss this. Here is how it works. WNCOS members bring in blooming orchids they feel could be award quality. The plant must have a legitimate identification label. You want your plant to look it’s best so clean it up, stake it up and bring it in. All plants will be looked at by the judges.
The schedule is a little different on judging day. All orchids that are to be judged need to be brought in between 11:30 and 12:00 (no later then 12:30 please) to be registered. Once the judging starts, everyone is encouraged to observe, quietly. There will be plenty of time for Q&A, after the judging is completed. The Carolina Judging Center crew are always ready to share their knowledge with us about the orchids they look at and why they did or did not receive an award. Culture tips and growing advise are always in abondance.
All sanctioned AOS Judging events are open to the public, so you don’t have to be a member of the WNCOS to register an orchid for judging, but we invite you to consider joining the WNCOS.
