December, 2020 WNCOS newsletter

Happy holidays folks! We sure have been missing everyone. While you’re reading our newsletter today, please stop now and make a note to attend our online WNCOS meeting this Sunday. Alan Koch with Gold Country Orchids is a good friend of mine, and a real authority in the industry. We really need to improve our electronic audience for these special guest speakers. You are missing out if you are not attending our ZOOM membership meetings. Last month was Harry Gallis speaking about Dendrobium species and their culture. I’m not growing dendrobiums myself, but I learned some things and definitely increased my interest. Harry was wonderful, as we expected, but we should have had more of you orchid lovers in attendance.

This Sunday, December 13th at 2:00 pm EST is your next incredible opportunity to increase your orchid education. Over the last few years, I have gotten to know Alan Koch a bit better and have an increased respect for his vast wealth of knowledge. Alan is one of those professionals who has been heavily involved in the orchid industry for decades. He has accomplished a lot and is one of those guys that seems to know a lot about everything. His expertise with the cattleya alliance is strong. If you have any kind of pest control questions, Alan is an authority. So, please check out his bio below and come with excitement and your questions this Sunday. In addition, we have got a plant purchase offering from Gold Country Orchids and we will be sure to attach this information for you here. Please find below, some further information about Sunday’s guest speaker, Alan Koch of Gold Country Orchids.

For over 30 years we have been known for our quality miniature and compact cattleyas, but to the orchid aficionado we have also been known as a fantastic source for species.
With over 2000 different species, too many to put into one list, we have long been a source to the orchid industry. The quality of our species has been perfected through years of breeding.
In our many travels we are always looking to improve on the quality of our orchids and have always tried to buy new plants on every trip to add to our select inventory. For years people have come to our nursery to seek divisions of our sometimes rare, but always healthy, vigorous plants. Now we can bring the nursery to you via our website.
Our owner Alan Koch is an internationally known speaker, author, and expert in the Cattleya Alliance.

I would like to also remind you all to keep up with our beautiful website and look at the upcoming programs that your WNCOS Vice President, Graham Ramsey has been busy putting together for us. www.wncos.org. Finally, we would like to wish everyone a very Happy Holiday season and thank you for your patience with us as we’ve worked hard during the pandemic to keep up with our incredible orchid society and provide you with the best content and programming that we can. All with the best interests of fun and safety in mind for everyone. It’s been hard, but it sure seems like 2021 is going to be a much better year for all of us. Keep staying well friends!

Thank you,

Mike Mims
