May 2024 Newsletter
What a great month for the Western North Carolina Orchid Society! Earlier this month Asheville Orchid Festival achieved great success, including the enrollment of 30 new orchid lovers to WNCOS membership. Last weekend, representing WNCOS, member Tim Legent installed his very first orchid exhibit at the South Carolina Orchid Society’s annual show. The exhibit won Best Society Exhibit for WNCOS; kudos Tim! And thanks to June Buttrick for driving to Columbia to bring the blooms home.!
Speaking of new members, this month’s meeting will be a great opportunity to see firsthand what we do. At our upcoming meeting, Sunday, May 12, we will be discussing, ‘What’s Wrong with My Orchid?’—a great learning and sharing opportunity. Expect lots of discussion about orchid problems, orchid successes and general orchid culture. If you have a plant in destress, bring it in for a checkup.!
Of course, there will be Show-and-Tell. Maybe one of your ribbon-winning beauties is still in bloom from the show? Or the one that wouldn’t open until after the show? Whatever the case, bring it in and show it off.!
Last on my list, to celebrate the 2024 Asheville Orchid Festival, we will have a superabundant orchid raffle table at this month’s meeting!!
See you on Sunday, May 12th, at 2:00 p.m., at the Asheville Visitor Center. What a great way to spend Mother’s Day afternoon, and feel free to grab Mom and bring her along!
