February 2025 Newsletter
Let’s give Leslie Keller another round of applause for her January program on The Chelsea Flower Show, and a great big thanks to all the members who braved the wintery weather for our first meeting back at the wonderful Ivy Building.
On February 9th, Carlos Ayala will join us to share his passion for growing Catasetums. A number of you recently acquired a Catasetum from the Holiday Social, or the January raffle table. Now is your chance to learn more about how to grow this unusual genius. Carlos will also be supplying this month’s raffle table, and will have special divisions for sale as well.
The Asheville Orchid Festival is just around the corner, March 28-30th. WNCOS is grateful to all of you who will donate your time and energy to help pull off what has become an annual community favorite. But of equal importance, are your blooming orchids!! Without your exquisite blooms, and plenty of them—there is no show! Now is the time to start staking those new spikes and preparing your plants for the ultimate Show-and-Tell.
The New Growers Club will be meeting this month at Marion Allen’s house, February 23rd at 2:00pm. Marion’s program will be exhibit design. This meeting is for all members, not just new growers. If you are interested in learning about the art of installing an exhibit, with the possibility of participating in one of our future partner shows, this is for you. You can reach Marion at 720-256-4560 to learn more.
I look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday, February 9th at The Ivy Building, 9 Genevieve Circle. The meeting starts at 2:00 p.m., but feel free to come early & socialize—and don’t forget those Show-and-Tell plants.
