Very much looking forward to seeing everyone in person this upcoming Sunday, April 10th. Yes, you read that correctly, we will be meeting at our regular meeting location, the Asheville Visitor Center, 2nd floor at 2:00 pm. Seems like it has been longer than two years since we’ve had a ‘normal’ WNCOS meeting. Much to be excited about, so I hope everyone makes the effort to come out and attend. For our board members, we will be gathering at 1:00 pm for an in-person board meeting, with our regular members meeting beginning at 2:00pm sharp. While we will be meeting in person, we will have special guest speaker, Eric Sauer from Ohio coming to us through the screen via ZOOM. Eric’s presentation is ‘Best Practices - Buying Orchids’. I do believe we will have an introduction, followed immediately by Eric Sauer via ZOOM. After our guest speaker is finished with us, we will transition to some conversation and ample time to visit amongst ourselves. Please bring in your favorite blooming orchid and show it off to the group, tell us all about it. Many members have often said that our show and tell segments of meetings are often the best source of information. A great way to get to know fellow members, what they grow and how they’re having success here in Western North Carolina. With the return of our exciting plant raffle, remember too that you earn a free raffle ticket for bringing in your blooming show and tell orchid. Finally, we will end the afternoon with our live orchid raffle. We will have raffle ticket sales open for the first time in a long time, and the raffle plan table will be covered with orchids and related items which can be won.

Eric has been growing orchids for over 30 years and specializes in South American Species. He has spoken internationally and across the United States.
Eric recently had a culture chapter published with Guido Braem in his book on Paphiopedilums and his book on Phragmipediums. He also has several of his Maxillaria photos published in Eric Christenson’s book on Maxillaria.
Eric has received over 85 awards from the American Orchid Society and has three orchids named after him including two species from Ecuador. He regularly works with other Maxillaria aficionados around the world to better understand the genus.
Eric’s real job is as a registered landscape architect and is the planning manager for Five Rivers Metro Parks in Dayton, Ohio
