February 2021 WNCOS Monthly Newsletter

Greetings everyone! Hopefully, that last snowstorm was the end of our winter weather. Probably not as active as the season has been for us here in WNC this winter. We are heading toward March, which is a great thing as the spring season is getting closer. If you have been a member of the WNCOS over recent years, you would know that typically we are fully engaged in putting together our Asheville Orchid Festival during our winter months. We are all disappointed with the reality that we could just not hold the big event this April due to the pandemic. However, we are all much more optimistic that we will begin working on the 2022 Asheville Orchid Festival later this year. We will continue to keep everyone aware of plans as we move along this year. In the meantime, you can help by growing your plants better, adding new orchids to your collections, and be ready to set those spikes for spring flowers in 2022.

These past few meetings have been excellent. Anyone who has been missing our ZOOM meetings really needs to take note here and plan to attend our February meeting. February is going to be an unprecedented experience for the WNCOS. We’ve got Wenging Perner in China, speaking to us live from the other side of the world. She is 13 hours ahead of us and as such, will be waking up incredibly early to be with us live. This is must-see stuff folks, so be ready. Another kind reminder that for 2021 we have waived required membership dues, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on everyone. I will also note that as we are a 501c3 organization, your financial contributions are always welcome and certainly helpful. Your dues are not due this year, but if you wish to pay them anyways, we will not say no. Truth be told, our fundraising opportunities in 2020 and 2021 have hurt us to some extent. All contributions are appreciated and managed wisely, all with the best interest and future of the WNCOS in mind.

Below you will find your invitation to this upcoming Sunday’s program, live from China! Also, make note of our March meeting with longtime WNCOS friend, Glenn Decker. Glen will be giving us a new program entitled “My Life with Slipper Orchids”. Sunday, March 14th at 2pm.

Our next membership meeting is this Sunday, February 14th at 2:00 pm via ZOOM. Please find the invitation link to this program below:
