November 2023 Newsletter
What a spectacular Fall season we are having. I hope everyone’s orchids are looking as beautiful as our Blue Ridge mountains.
The WNCOS program on November 9th will be “What the Heck is Tree Fern” by yours truly, Graham Ramsey. New Zealand Tree Fern is a fairly new medium that orchids love. There will be a short PowerPoint program and then a hands-on demonstration. I will be repotting some plants, showing how to best use tree fern, and encouraging all the potting and culture questions you can come up with. It should be a lot of fun.
November is also WNCOS annual meeting month, with elections happening every other year. This being an off year, I will deliver a very brief, and not boring, State of the Society address. Of course, we will have Show-and-Tell and a great raffle table!
I also want to tell you about a special event coming up with the American Orchid Society. The AOS Education Committee in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Master Gardner’s Program presents “Orchids for Everyone.” This is a 6-class master series that will begin online Wednesday, November 1st. Once a week for six weeks some of the true orchid masters will present unique programs. Click here to see the details on this wonderful series. But, you have to be a member of the AOS to enjoy these programs. If you are not already a member, this is a perfect time to consider joining. This series alone is worth the $54 Digital membership dues. Click here to see all that comes with an AOS membership. If this sounds like a sales pitch, that’s because it is. We should all be members of the AOS!
The Orchiata order went very well. I only have three bags of Super left. If you want a bag, let me know.
Sunday, November 12th at 2:00 at the Asheville Visitor Center will be a great orchid day. I’ll be looking for a big Show-and-Tell table and all your smiling faces.
