June Newsletter

May’s Mothers Day meeting was very well attended, and what a great meeting it was. Once again, the Show & Tell table was overflowing with a wide variety of blooming beauties. Let’s keep that up! And Jeremy Losaw, from the Carolina Judging Center, gave a excellent presentation on orchid photography.

On June 2nd & 3rd, WNCOS will have a booth at the NC Arboretum Spring Plant & Market. Our booth, complimentary of NC Arboretum, gives WNCOS the opportunity to share our passion for orchids with our local WNC community and recruit new members. Click here for more information.

For our June 11th meeting we are talking PEST CONTROL!! Let’s face it, sooner or later, we all have pest issues. For this special meeting we have gotten permission to access an American Orchid Society Webinar: Pest & Pest Management. This special pay-per-view webinar was produced by Ron McHatton PhD, Chief Education and Science Officer of the AOS. If I had to name one orchid expert living today, it would be Ron McHatton! We will show clips of his webinar and pause along the way for group Q&A, so please bring your pressing pest questions. If Ron does not address your question, one of us will!

FYI: Ron McHatton also hosts AOS Greenhouse Chat, a monthly AOS live webinar open to the public. That’s right, these are free. You do not have to be an AOS member to participate in the Greenhouse Chat or the library of the previously recorded chats. Click here to explore.

Our June meeting will be on Sunday, June 11th at 2:00pm. We will meet at the Asheville Visitor Center, 2nd Floor—36 Montford Avenue. Feel free to show up early for some good orchid socializing. Looking forward to seeing you then.
