July 2023 Newsletter
This month we have an excellent speaker, Art Chadwick of Chadwick and Sons Orchids, from Richmond, Virginia. Art is what we like to call a Rock Star in the orchid world. He is best known for his fabulous Cattleyas, and especially for his Cattleyas named after First Ladies of the United States. In fact, he and his father, A.A. Chadwick, have written a book on First Lady Cattleyas titled “First Ladies and their Cattleyas: A Century of Namesake Orchids.” This is also the title of the program he will present to WNCOS on June 9th!! This will undoubtedly be an afternoon to remember.
Please take a few minutes to visit the excellent Chadwick and Sons website for further information on this special speaker. Also, you can pre-order plants with Art and receive a 10% discount on mature cattleyas and other plants listed on the website, www.chadwickorchids.com. Of course, Art will have a variety of orchids for sale at the meeting, so come early and do some shopping.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting meeting in store for August. The Carolina Judging Center is scheduled to hold an American Orchid Society sanctioned supplemental judging event especially for WNCOS. Look for more information in next month’s newsletter and currently on our website, wncos.org. Also, please visit the website to view additional new orchid related links.
Please join us on Sunday, June 9th at the Asheville Visitor Center, 36 Montford Avenue. The meeting starts at 2:00pm but come early for shopping and socializing. And FYI, the raffle table will be stocked with Chadwick and Sons orchids, and, of course, don’t forget your Show and Tell bloomers!!
