May 2025 Newsletter
I don’t remember ever being so thrilled to see our mountains turn green! Spring Green! And like our orchids, everything is starting to bloom.
It was wonderful to see so many new faces/new members at April’s meeting, many who joined after attending Asheville Orchid Festival in late March. At the April meeting, our All-Things-Orchids roundtable was a great success, with a wealth of growing tips shared and a great deal of camaraderie as well.
Our guest speaker on Sunday, May 11 will be Nicholas Rusty of Rusty Exotics Orchids. Nicholas will present: Artificial Lighting, Simplified. As Rusty writes, “The boom of new, effective and inexpensive grow lights has filled many hobbyists with an excitement to expand thier growing area into previously unusable spaces…This talk explains how to navigate this newer method of growing without all the confusing terms and graphs.” Rusty will also be bringing plants for sale!
Since May 11th is Mother’s Day, why not treat your Mom to an afternoon of orchid delights. There will be plenty of goodies on the Orchid Raffle Table—and don’t forget your Show-and-Tell plants!
The meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday May 11th, at 9 Genevieve Circle, but please feel free to come early and socialize.
